January 2027 Intake Opens With Expanded Scholarships
Applications are now open for the January 2027 intake at Erythras International University, and this cycle brings the most generous scholarship envelope in our history. EIU Data Science Team Publishes AI Crop-Yield Forecasting Model for Smallholder Farms
Researchers in EIU's Faculty of Computing & Information Technology have published a machine-learning model that forecasts maize and teff yields for smallholder farms using nothing more than satellite imagery and a smartphone weather log. The study — a collaboration with agricultural extension officers in Oromia — was released through the EIU Research Portal after passing the university's dual-approval workflow (faculty head and academic board).The gradient-boosted ensemble achieved 91% accuracy in back-testing across three growing seasons, and the team has released the dataset openly.

When I founded Erythras International University, I carried one conviction: a working mother in Nairobi, a teacher in Kano and an engineer in Addis Ababa all deserve the same door to world-class higher education. EIU is that door — open, distance and digital.

Mobile money is celebrated as a financial-inclusion success, but its effect on micro-enterprises in border towns — where currency friction and informal trade dominate — is under-studied. Using a two-wave panel of 890 micro-entrepreneurs, we estimate causal effects on revenue growth, savings behaviour and supplier credit.

Sub-Saharan Africa faces a critical shortage of skilled nurses, yet working nurses rarely access career-progression education. Machine-Learning Crop Yield Forecasting for Smallholder Farms in the Nile Basin
Smallholder farms produce most of the food consumed across East Africa, yet yield forecasting tools designed for them are almost non-existent. We present a gradient-boosted ensemble that forecasts maize and teff yields up to 60 days before harvest using freely available satellite indices and minimal smartphone weather logs.
